"Expandable batons" are not specifically addressed in the Dangerous Weapons Control Laws for the State of California. However, California Penal Code section 12020(a)(1) does prohibit the sale, possession,etc. of any instruments or weapons of the kind commonly known as a blackjack, slungshot, billy, sandclub, sap, or sandbag. Basically, these items may only be possessed and/or used within the scope of their duties by law enforcement officers and permitted uniformed security officers and animal control officers.
